Abstract:In this talk,Dr. Hwang will address critical issues surrounding the fusion of cloud/datacenters, AI chips, fog nodes, mobile devices, and intelligent robots in various IoT edge and cloud platforms to face the grand challenges in big-data, AI and cognitive applications. He will assess hardware, software, networking and intelligence integration techniques. The ultimate design goals are to achieve enhanced agility in AI systems, end user mobility, global security, and scalability in public clouds and IoT platforms.
The roles of machine learning and big-data analytics are identified for edge, fog and cloud computing. Hewill cover the co-design of hardware mechanisms, AI system upgrade, and software support to achieve sustained performance and ensure cyber security. Intelligent robots, IoT devices, NB-IoT, 5G and satellite-based intelligent networks are presented to face the challenges in AI and HPC in cloud/IoT applications. An on-going research project at CUHK-SZ is presented for developing an industrial cloud for intelligent manufacturing and AI applications in smart city and 5G healthcare systems.
Kai Hwangis a Presidential Chair Professor inComputerScience and Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Shenzhen, China. He also serves as a Chief Scientiest at the Cloud Computing Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has taught at the University of Southern California and Purdue University for many years. He received the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley.
Dr. Hwang has published 10 scientific books and 260 scientific papers. His current Google Scholar citation has exceeded 18,000 with an h-index of 57. His textbooks were translated into 5 foreign languages. His new books:Cloud Computing for Machine Learning and Cognitive Applications(MIT Press) andBig Data Analytics for Cloud/IoT and Cognitive Computing(Wiley),appeared in English and Chinese editions.
An IEEE Life Fellow, Dr. Hwang received the very first Outstanding Achievement Award from theComputer Federation of China (CFC)in 2005. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from theIEEE CloudCom 2012 for his pioneering work in parallel computing and distributed systems. He has delivered over 50 keynote speeches in many IEEE/ACM conferences or research centers. He has performed consulting work with IBM, MIT Lincoln Lab, ITRI in Taiwan, INRIA in France, and CERN in EU. He has servered as a visiting chair professor at Taiwan Univ., Minnesota Univ., Tsinghua Univ., and Hong Kong Univ. At present, he can be reached via:firstname.lastname@example.org.
